| Design Cycle |
During this project, we had to use the design cycle to build some sort of way to support over 200 pounds with a notecard. this required us to think hard, wether it was about how to make our colums or where to put the colums under the weight as part of the layout. we also had to choose how many colums we made which became a major factor. my group got the "Atkins A" because of the way I designed the colums to have a line down the center for extra support. we failed to get the "A" many times but as this happened, we discovered the flaws we had in our design. we could then use these faults to deside how we can make it better.
Many of my groups's designs failed due to crushing, buckling, and overturning. crushing is when the colum is too wide and can't support the weight, buckling is when the colums are uneven or too skinny, and overturning is when the colums fell over due to poor placement. we had to think of a better way to make sure that this didn't happen. overturning was the most common way that most of my classmates failed to get the "Atkins A". to prevent this, we hat to find a way to place the colums so that they were in the perfect place so that it could support the weight.
